The university proudly carries the legacy of Bharat Ratna Rajarshi Purushottamdas Tandon — a freedom fighter, educationist, Hindi visionary and symbol of national values.
A Life of Service, Leadership & National Pride
Born in Prayag on 1 August 1882, Rajarshi Purushottamdas Tandon dedicated his life to education, public service, Hindi language promotion, farmers’ rights and India’s freedom movement. He remained a symbol of integrity, sacrifice and nation-building.

Prof. Satyakam
Professor Satyakam is the 16th Vice Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj. Before assuming office, he served as Pro Vice Chancellor at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.
He has also held key academic responsibilities as Director, School of Humanities and Director (Research), and has contributed over three decades in higher education as teacher, scholar and academic administrator.
He is widely known for contributions in Hindi language, literary criticism, research writing, translation and open learning systems. His work reflects commitment to learner-centric education, innovation and quality distance learning.
